megotelek: (deadliest catch)
Wow...lots of stuff to talk about this time. First of all, I was playing the Deadliest Catch game on the Discovery Channel website...it's like Oregon Trail with crab! Although, you don't get to pick the actual crew members from the show...I was sad...I wanted to pick Edgar! There were some experienced girl deckhands and senior deckhands to pick from though, so that was nice. I made $200,000 my first time out - not bad for a greenhorn skipper!

This weekend was very movie-heavy...we went to see Live Free or Die Hard on Saturday, which was excellent. I mean, it's a Die Hard movie...you get tough-as-nails Bruce Willis John McClane, and his daughter, and stuff blows up. Do we really ask more than that? I don't think so. It was awesome.

Then, John and I hit the preview screening of Transformers on Monday night. I kind of delayed writing about it, because the only thing that came to mind yesterday was OMGSOCOOLTRANSFORMERS!!1! which really isn't the most articulate review I could give. I'm still not quite back to my adult self yet...I swear, I was an 8-year-old again in that theater. Surrounded by other 8-year-olds...and their Nintendo DSs and cell phones. We were sitting up high in the back, so we had this grand vista spread out before us of every type of electronic device one could possibly have. It was...kind of startling. And made me feel very old. And jellus...I want a toy! Again, 8 years old.

Ahem...where was I? Right, the movie. My only complaints were that there were a couple of jokes that really didn't need to be there and will prevent younger kids from being able to watch it. At least, if they have halfway responsible parents, it will. And, they didn't put the new theme song in the movie. It's the freaking theme song. Regardless of who liked it or didn't like it, the fact that it did, at least, have the original tune in there was a plus! I, personally, liked it. And it is on the soundtrack, so that's something.

Other than that, I was squealing with glee throughout the whole movie. I loved that they asked Peter Cullen to do the voice of Optimus Prime (he originally voiced him for the cartoon...I don't think anyone else has ever done that voice, come to think of it...) because it made it feel very authentic. Jon Voight was fantastic as the Secretary of Defense, and Shia LaBeouf was great in the lead. At one point during the movie, it finally hit me...he reminds me of a very young John Cusack. And, since I adore John Cusack, it worked for me!

Awesome

I found this in my Internet wanderings and thought it bore repeating:

"An English professor wrote the words: 'A woman without her man is nothing' on the chalkboard and asked his students to punctuate it correctly.

All the male students in the class wrote:
"A woman, without her man, is nothing"

All the female students in the class wrote:
"A woman: without her, man is nothing"

Just goes to show you, kids, punctuation is a powerful thing.

In honor of the day, a link to the Declaration of Independence. This particular site also has bios of all the signers.

And, because I'm watching 1776 right now, an excerpt...

Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?

They want to me to quit; they say
John, give up the fight
Still to England I say
Good night, forever, good night!
For I have crossed the Rubicon
Let the bridge be burned behind me
Come what may, come what may

Commitment!

The croakers all say we'll rue the day
There'll be hell to pay in fiery purgatory
Through all the gloom, through all the gloom
I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory!

Is anybody there? Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?

I see fireworks! I see the pageant and
Pomp and parade
I hear the bells ringing out
I hear the cannons roar
I see Americans - all Americans
Free forever more!

And, because we never see it often enough in our adult lives, the Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the republic for which it stands
One nation, under God
Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
