POTC and more!

Yeah, yeah, it's been a while! So long, in fact, that I've now seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest three times in the theater. Three! Once with John, once with Jessica, and once with Jessica and Lisa. So each time, I was with someone who hadn't seen it!
And before the movie, we were treated to two trailers for movies I must see when they come out: Night at the Museum starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney and Owen Wilson. Yes, you read that right. Coming out this Christmas! And Transformers, a live action/CGI movie coming out 7/4/07 starring our very own Hasbro Transformers! Shut up, they were big when I was small!
Oh, speaking of things that were big when I was small...there's a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out next year also...all CGI, from the look of it. Not sure how I feel about that one yet...
Anyway, on to the POTC review!
My favorite part: The three-way sword fight between Jack, Will, and Norrington and what it leads to...it is long but never feels repetitive, and I laughed until my sides hurt. All three times! Now that, my friends, is staying power! That and Captain Jack and his pole-vault-kabob of fruitydeath escape! Good times. Oh, and before I forget, remember to stay all the way through the credits for a bonus scene! Well, and a chance to hear the Kraken music in full...
I went out and bought the soundtrack today. It is, for lack of a better word, brilliant! You can tell that the first outing was by the apprentice (Klaus Badelt) and this was done by the master (Hans Zimmer). It's orchestral and full and yet has some very unique and/or weird syncopation and percussion that remind me of Danny Elfman's scores, especially in The Kraken. And the Davy Jones theme is framed so beautifully by the little locket-music box instrumental. It really is a gorgeous piece of work. And the best part is in the liner notes where all the people are credited...they all have pirate names! Like Tom "Chum Bucket" Gire and Gore "Cap'n" Verbinski...ooh, and Walt "Argh" Fowler! It's awesome.
Right, back to the movie. I was (of course) frustrated to have to wait until May of next year for the final installment, but it's so exciting to have Barbossa back! And everyone going to World's End (also known as the East, apparently, judging from pictures I've seen) to bring back Jack and the Pearl! Oh, our working theory is that Tia Dalma is the woman Davy Jones fell in love with (the locket on her table when Jack takes the ring matches his music box on the organ) and there seems to be a past with her and Jack also...because...it's Jack!
This last time we went to see it, practically everyone in the theater gasped out loud when Will sees Elizabeth kissing Jack. I had to stifle my giggles. And I got chills up my spine again when Jack gets free and goes out fighting Teh Kraken (tm
cleolinda). Chills! I know, I'm being incoherent...but...AWESOME MOVIE!
Sigh...off to listen to the music again!
