Flu...part deux

So...after I had the killer flu back in February, the cough hung around for a couple of weeks. Okay, that's pretty normal, from what I hear. But Wednesday night at Schola rehearsal, about halfway through rehearsal I started to overheat and get all disoriented. I couldn't hold any notes, either, so I had to basically read along while everyone else sang.

I went home after rehearsal and took my temperature....yup, 100.6. Crap! So I went to the doctor on Thursday morning and he said that since my immune system was weakened from the first flu, I had apparently picked up a different strain of the flu. Oh, hurrah. He prescribed me some high-octane Robitussin-with-codeine and sent me on my way.

And...I'm still here, on the sofa, drinking tea, with a fever of 101.2. Still. After 4 freaking days. I am so SICK of being sick!

Good news? Well, we watched Stardust on Friday night...it was really good. I haven't read the book, but now I want to. I know from what I've heard that the book doesn't have a lot of...action per se, but that's okay, because it's a book. Movies, on the other hand, need something visual, and I think they did a good job with it. Also, I spent the entire movie going, "Hey, it's...!" I mean, everyone from Peter O'Toole to Mr. Weasley (as a goat!) to Henry Cavill and Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian! Eeee!) is in it, not to mention Sienna Miller, Claire Danes and Michelle Pfeiffer in one of the best roles I've seen her in. Seriously, the only way the witch could have been any better is if she was played by Bernadette Peters, and, well, she's already done that.

Sigh...off to top off my teacup.

Huh, really? I think there's action in the book. Funnily enough, I just re-read it yesterday on a whim.

Who was Ben Barnes in the movie? (I haven't seen it.) Sienna Miller is probably the worst casting possible for her character. And from the pictures and brief clips I saw, Michelle Pfeiffer seemed acceptable, though now that you mention it, Bernadette Peters would have rocked--and she'd have looked a lot more like the character is supposed to. Actually, you know who'd have looked really great in the roll too? Catherine Zeta Jones.

I guess by action I mean...fighting/swordfighting type action. Ben Barnes plays the young Dunstan Thorn - he's not onscreen for very long, but he does well with what he's given.

As far as Sienna Miller goes, if I was supposed to actually like Victoria's character in any way, then she did a horrible job.

Bernadette Peters just rocks, period. :)

I guess there wasn't a ton of sword-fighty stuff. There was a fight involving daggers, though. And an attack involving leaves. Creepier than it sounds.

I think we are supposed to like Victoria at least a little bit by the end, actually. We're certainly not supposed to hate her. And she's supposed to be frickin' 17-years-old. With grey eyes and chestnut curls.

Really? Wow...that's...so not...just not.

I don't think I hated her by the end of the movie, but at the very most, I felt sorry for her.
