Aneurysms and hemorrhages...

Ohh, great, now I have to stay out of the Black Donnellys thread over at TWoP also....somebody is complaining about the fact that there aren't enough "minorities" represented. The show is about four Irish brothers. Irish! An Irish family! Not four Irish brothers and their token black/Asian friend. That makes me so mad when people do that...there aren't enough minorities! Like on Friends or The Class. Look, I know it's hard to deal with, but people tend to hang out and be friends with other people who look like them. You might think that's stupid, but it's true. The only context I've ever seen the true multicultural diversity thing work on is workplace-centered shows like ER and Grey's Anatomy. And you would be friends with these people because they are your colleagues.
I hate it when people go out of their way to classify others based on looks/race/religion/whatever. You might think you're being 'diverse', but you're really being divisive. The only way to truly be color-blind is to actually be color-blind. Treat everyone the same regardless. If you go out of your way to point out that someone is 'African-American' (or any other race) for whatever reason, even a positive reason, you are enforcing the idea that they are different. And that it's okay for them to be treated differently. Argh. I didn't mean for this to come out as a rant, but it's one of my biggest pet peeves from people who claim to be so culturally 'enlightened'.
Same thing for the people who (sorry, GGMMers) applaud the Dixie Chicks for what they did. This is coming out now because of that stupid documentary that just came out, Shut Up & Sing. It was wrong for them to insult the President of the United States while they were representing the United States in a foreign country. Period. They can express their feelings in song, as they are (supposedly) singer-songwriters. I absolutely loathe it when people who make their living as entertainers suddenly decide that they are morally superior and can do whatever they want and are suddenly expert in all kinds of things, such as politics and science. No, you're not. Do what you're paid millions of dollars to do, please. Realize that if you were in any one of a number of countries with fascist regimes, you would have been shot for treason by now. Be grateful that you live in America, with all the freedom that brings. And, for the fifteen thousandth time, just because you don't agree with someone, that does not make them "stupid". You don't graduate from Harvard and Yale by being "stupid".
I'm sick of hypocrisy. I'm sick of watching the news and listening to ignorant people spout propaganda with no facts behind it. I wish the government would stick to securing the borders and maintaining the army and that people wouldn't keep trying to force the government to legislate people's private lives. That is NOT the job of the government. The government does not owe you anything beyond securing your rights and freedoms as a citizen. I think everyone should be able to do whatever they want as long as they don't harm themselves or others. I think there should be freedom of information and speech for everybody, not just for those the cultural elite find agreeable. And I think scientists should start acting in a more scientific manner.
Man, it's good to get all that off my chest. And, in rereading that, I've come to the conclusion that I'm a libertarian. Huh.
