I'm still a little bleary, since Jessica and I went to see the midnight showing last Thursday night, but from what I remember of the book (read it about 6 months/a year ago last), it was a very well-done adaptation. Dakota Blue Richards is exactly how I imagined Lyra to be, so that was awesome.
The Sam Elliott/Kathy Bates duo was also awesome, as was Ian McKellen (surprisingly) as Iorek. A couple of things got moved around, but all in all it was a very very satisfying movie. Definitely adding to the DVD wishlist.
Ah, Enchanted. From the first trailer I saw I knew I was going to see this; what I wasn't prepared for was how intelligently funny and self-parodying it was! There were so many little allusions to the Disney movies (at one point, the "Pink Elephants on Parade" song from Dumbo was playing in the background...and then I realized I'd probably seen Dumbo too many times since I recognized it) - it was completely and totally awesome and another DVD I must. own. now.
