BSG: Sine Qua Non

As this episode started, John turned to me and asked, "I wonder if this episode will just be about the fleet, and we won't go to the basestar at all?"
Well, as it turned out, he was right. But before we get into that, go check out Bear's entry on the episode's music. Because it was fantastic. And perfect.

Even John noticed the music, and he doesn't normally pick up on it. When Lampkin (yay, Lampkin!) and Adama are talking and he brings up the phrase "sine qua non" (without which not, the essential thing without which we cannot live), the Roslin & Adama theme starts playing. Because, of course, he can't live without her! And when Lee is talking to Romo about the choices we make at the cost of others, the music from "33" and the music that played during the Olympic Carrier sequence starts playing. Just perfect.
I do find it amusing that this episode should come up as John has been complaining of too much focus on the Final Five and the visions and the mystical elements of the story. So now we get a very human-focused, procedural storyline. See, take that!
Okay, Caprica Six and Athena. First of all, oh frak! Tigh knocked up Caprica! So...apparently the Five can reproduce with other Cylons? Does that mean her child won't actually be a hybrid, but will be 100% Cylon? Is that a first? Does she know yet? And the fact that we skim over that fact to go right into the knock-down, drag-out fight between Tigh and Adama...I had shivers. Well, and then I started laughing when the ship got broken again. Followed by, "Do you know how many times I've fixed that?" Ha!
Athena, well....Bill, how on earth can you expect her to think rationally about Hera. Remember when you stole her baby and told her it was dead? And then she found out you were keeping it from her? What do you think she's gonna do when she believes someone else is going to take Hera away. Huh, she acts...like a mother! But I'm glad he realized that and gave Hera back to her in the end. And...oh frak, I can't see the TV because I'm crying because he's in the raptor reading Searider Falcon all alone.
Okay, the political story. I never really know how I feel about the Quorum...I know I should be on their side, the right to know what's going on and all that (and the scene where Galactica jumps out with no warning was just...scary), but every time they show the Quorum in "action", I just want to slap them all upside the head. Sigh. Okay, so, the search for a president Adama will recognize. Liked the scene of Lampkin in his quarters talking to his (imaginary?) cat about the qualities needed...and coming up with Lee (except I don't think Lee has experience or wisdom yet, but whatever - he does have honesty and the will to do the right thing and the privilege of having been with Roslin at the beginning on Colonial One). I jumped when he pulled the gun on Lee.
The cat thing was...ew. He's seriously gone round the bend, Lampkin has. Aw, but now he has a dog! Hi Jake the Resistance Dog!
Ugh, I don't even want to get into speculation on what happened in the whole basestar/hub showdown. I'll just wait until next week, and the week after that, and....that's it for this half?! Okay, they better reveal the final Cylon before hiatus, otherwise it's just a stunt to keep people tuning in. If they want it to be part of the story (which, I would expect that from these showrunners), then they need the back half of the season to deal with whoever it is.
Oh, previews! D'Anna unboxed by Cavil? D'Anna outing someone as a Cylon? Not Madame President, but whoever's next to her. Anders? Who else is on that basestar?
